ann demeulemeester painted linen shawl collared jacket, s/s 1999

painted white linen jacket with a shawl collar from the sublime spring ‘99 collection. beautifully tailored with darts at its shoulders, one button closure, patch pockets at its hips, and a single breast pocket (still sewn shut). beyond the fantastic cut of the jacket, the textile is just so incredibly special; a very thin layer of white paint was applied to the linen, adding texture and giving the otherwise airy textile a touch of structure. i very rarely come across this season’s painted pieces; i imagine production was limited due to their “artisanal” nature.
