chantal thomass geometric panel skirt, s/s 1992

kente meets mondrian geometric skirt in primary shades of red, blue, and yellow. at first glance, the eye catching pattern appears printed, but upon further inspection, is actually patchwork (ie: very labor intensive, considering the geometry!). after the individual pieces were sewn, a black cotton tape piping was added to the front (photo 3), following the lines of where the pieces meet; totally sublime and complex construction. the same skirt was worn on the runway, alongside many different variations of this striking color blocked technique- see accompanying imagery!

* tagged size 42 FR (fits a modern-day 38, mannequin is a 36). flat measurements: waist- 33 cm, hips- 48 cm, length- 85 cm.
