romeo gigli medieval inspired velvet booties, early 90s

rare and resplendent multicolor velvet slippers by romeo gigli. the ethereal medieval inspired bootie, like his early swallow tail coats were an essential part of the gigli “look”, and were reworked from season to season; either set on a heel or flat, and done in rich silks or velvets. this pair is partially lined in a silk taffeta, giving the long tendril-like ties some structure when wrapped around the ankle. the inner-most lining and outer sole are both leather, and stamped by their maker (“casadei”, an italian footwear company founded in 1958). as if these weren’t magical enough on their own, they come complete with their original box, wrapped with all of their original tissue paper; as if frozen in time.
